HOLIDAY ACCOMMODATION FOR B150 CELEBRATIONS

BUDERIM IS BUZZING. Next year -2012- is a time for celebration for the whole community. It marks the 150th year since white settlement , with Tom Petrie climbing the mountain looking for timber. There will be plenty of opportunity to celebrate right throughout the year.
Facebook will be a key plank in promoting Buderim’s ambitious year-long program of events to celebrate its 150th anniversary throughout 2012. Planning is already well advanced with the launch last Friday (6 May 2011) of the BWMCA’s (Buderim War Memorial Community Association’s) B150 Facebook page.

John Devers a member of the B150 planning committee, joined forces with three bright young minds from the University of the Sunshine Coast to build the Facebook site and link B150, virtually, to the world.

“In 2012, Buderim celebrates 150 years since the first official record of Buderim was made and over the many generations since, Buderim has become a community of unique character and spirit,” John explained.

“The BWMCA, itself 66 years old, has established a Committee to oversee and coordinate the year-long calendar of community events and initiatives to celebrate this milestone.

“Through B150, our close knit Buderim community will be given the opportunity to learn more of its history, more about why our community is special.

“The BWMCA sees the B150 initiative as a once in a generation opportunity to celebrate what makes Buderim so attractive to residents, past, present and future, and to promote what has been achieved over the past 150 years, reinforcing pride in those achievements.

“It will also provide us with the opportunity to acknowledge the indigenous and Kanaka chapters of Buderim’s history and to involve every member of the community in a diverse range of activities and events that will have great appeal and lasting community benefit.

“B150 is also an excellent opportunity to reinforce Buderim’s reputation as a place with a unique character and charm, a place that is supportive and caring, a place where its residents continually demonstrate outstanding community spirit and cooperation,” John said.
