How wonderful to be able to watch this wonderful bird at close quarters. About 2 months ago I noticed this osprey perched on the rooftop of our 6 storey apartment block. You could hear him calling out – a shrill whistling call.
One day while fishing on our jetty he scared the life out of me when he hit the water in front of me at full force. Sure enough he had a flapping mullet in his tallons as he flew off. From then on he has been a regular feature atop the roof every afternoon. Last week I caught a whiting and killed it . I saw him watching so I tossed it out into the river. On cue, he dived down and captured it .
They are a majestic looking bird. I believe he is nesting in a tree on an island opposite , but have not had time to confirm this yet.
